Benefits of Hypnotherapy

What is hypnotherapy?

There are many forms of talking therapy, but hypnotherapy sets itself apart in the way that the hypnotherapist works with the client’s subconscious mind. In clinical practice the hypnotherapist guides the client into a pleasantly relaxed state of mind and body, and then works with the client’s rich imagination using a various techniques.

Over time the conscious mind forms beliefs which can be damaging or limiting:
“I can’t do this…”, “I always do that…”, “I don’t deserve…”, I’m not strong enough to…”

Hypnotherapy is a skilled communication aimed at directing a person’s imagination in a way that helps bring about changes in perceptions, sensations, feelings, thoughts and behaviours. In a typical hypnotherapy session the hypnotherapist will ask questions about previous medical history, general health and lifestyle, the client and hypnotherapist will discuss the intended alterations to behaviour and or thoughts and the intended therapeutic goals desired. Based on these discussions an agreed therapeutic protocol will be designed.

Hypnotherapy may be found to be helpful for those seeking relief from range of problems and is used alongside a person’s own willpower and motivation to seek a desired goal. It is often used to help relieve anxiety, insomnia, bedwetting, weight control, and help clients achieve behavioural change to stop smoking. It may also help with minor skin conditions that are exacerbated by stress and confidence issues, and may also be used to enhance performance in areas such as sport and public speaking. Hypnotherapy may help people to cope with and manage the relief of perceived pain.

There is evidence to support the used of Hypnotherapy for the management of the symptoms of irritable bowel (IBS). There is evidence to support its use in this condition for both adults and children and the National Institute for Health and Clinical Guidance (NICE) recommends the NHS should consider referring patients for hypnotherapy if their irritable bowel is persistent and has failed to respond to simple prescribed medicine.

In order to change we need to find a way past unwanted beliefs and ideas, hypnotherapy provides us with that route. Many people struggle with problems or bad habits for years. Hypnotherapy works with the client’s full permission to enable them to make positive, lasting changes with ease.

The Haven Holistic and Hypnotherapy Centre is about providing therapies that help you to achieve balance in your life. Happiness can only be achieved if there is balance between the physical, the mental, the spiritual and the social/emotional needs.

We can support this by listening to our bodies by ensuring we eat properly and exercise regularly without causing injury. Our mental stability is met by stimulation and relaxation. The spiritual side does not have to be about religion, but about our inner beliefs that should be nourished which can be through music, meditation and even laughter or good humour. Our social/emotional needs are important to us, they include our families and friends.
